It was a history-filled day for Senators JV Ejercito and Robin Padilla.

Senator JV Ejercito played tour guide to Senator Robin over the weekend while visiting San Juan City’s historic sites to pay tribute to the heroes who fought for the countryside independence.

Ahead of the National Heroes Day, the tour stops included Pinaglabanan memorial shrine that honors the heroism of the Katipuneros led by Andres Bonifacio in first battle of the Philippine Revolution way back in 1896. The two senators also made a history tour around El Deposito and Museo ng Katipunan.

“Pareho kaming tunay na maka Bonifacio ni Tol Sen. Robin Padilla!” Ejercito said in an online post.

“Pareho kaming mahilig sa kasaysayan at masaya tayong naibahagi ang mga nagawa natin noon pa para pagtibayin ang kanilang alaala,” he said.

According to Ejercito, they talked about the controversial transfer of the monuments dedicated to Andres Bonifacio and Emilio Jacinto, that once served as landmarks along Pinaglabanan Street. The monument of national hero Jose Rizal was also moved to San Juan Plaza.

For Ejercito, these monuments are just pieces of cityscape but are reminders to keep the memory of the country’s heroes alive.

“Mula noon hanggang ngayon, hindi tayo titigil sa paggunita sa kadakilaan ng ating mga bayani sa araw na ito. Mabuhay ang Pinaglabanan!” he said.
