Palace to companies: Follow plastic recovery rules or face penalties

Malacañang on Thursday cautioned companies covered by the Extended Producer Responsibility law to comply with their plastic recovery obligations.

This was after the Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued 155 show-cause letters to potential violators.

In a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace press officer Claire Castro said the agency is auditing the plastic recovery rates of companies covered by the EPR law, or Republic Act 11898.

These companies are required to recover or offset an increasing portion of their plastic packaging footprint.

“Kapag hindi nag-comply, bibigyan po sila at papatawan ng penalty,” Castro said, quoting a DENR statement.

She added that the 155 show cause orders do not mean that the companies have been sanctioned.

The warning came amid massive floods in Metro Manila made worse by the improper disposal of trash, which clogged drainage systems and waterways. —Politiko.com.ph
