Marcos eyeing rollout of waste-to-energy projects by 2027

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is hopeful that the government’s waste-to-energy program would be implemented by 2027 amid efforts to speed up the auction for the projects.

He made the remarks after inspecting the Tripa de Gallina Pumping Station in Pasay City.

The President said the Department of Energy has begun the bidding process for the program which is aimed at addressing the garbage problem while tapping it as an alternative energy source.

“With our waste-to-energy program, the DOE is already starting to auction. So, nagbi-bid na sila sa waste-to-energy program,” he said.

Marcos was optimistic that waste-to-energy projects could be implemented by net year.

“Medyo mabilis naman yan, at ‘yung waste-to-energy should be, as long as the financing is available, I think will be able to put those into action by next year,” he added.

Earlier, the DOE said over 400 megawatts of waste-to-energy capacity have been included in the Green Energy Auction program. The auction is set for October 13.

Around 200 MW of power could be generated from 9,000 metric tons of solid waste produced daily in the National Capital Region.
