From classroom to career: Marcos pushes work immersion for senior high students

The government will strengthen the Senior High School curriculum through expanded work immersion and work pathways in order to better prepare young Filipinos for the labor force, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said on Monday.

“Ngunit patuloy pa rin nating pinalalakas ang curriculum ng Senior High upang lalong maihanda ang estudyante para sa tunay na mundo. Pina-igting pa ang work immersion para maranasan nila nang personal ang paghahanapbuhay sa kanilang gustong larangan,” Marcos said in his fifth State of the Nation Address.

He noted that SHS graduates were highly employable, recalling that more than 1,500 were hired on the spot during the Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fairs held in March.

“Napapatunayan natin ang kakayahan ng mga Senior High graduates natin. Sa mga isinagawa nating Bagong Pilipinas Serbisyo Fairs nitong Marso, mahigit isanlibo’t kalahating Senior High graduates ang ‘hired-on-the-spot,’” he said.

Marcos added that SHS graduates are also eligible to apply for entry-level positions in government.

The President also touted the government’s efforts to boost technical-vocational education and training, citing the 81% job placement rate of tech-voc graduates.

He said the government has integrated the Tech-Pro program into the SHS curriculum.

“Sa pamamagitan ng Tech-Pro, na isinasama na sa ating Senior High School curriculum, maaari nang ipagpatuloy ng mga mag-aaral ang kanilang pag-aaral, makapagtrabaho, o gawin ang dalawa,” Marcos added.—Politiko.com.ph
