Gaming kingpin down: POGO boss Tony Yang battles TB in detention

Tony Yang, allegedly a key figure in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) industry, has been placed in isolation at the detention facility of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) in Pasay City after being diagnosed with tuberculosis.

PAOCC Executive Director Guilbert Cruz said Yang needed to be separated from other POGO detainees to prevent the spread of the disease and to ensure close monitoring of his condition.

Yang was rushed to a hospital in Taguig City early Wednesday morning (March 26) after experiencing three days of coughing up blood and complaining of chest tightness. He was later discharged while awaiting the results of laboratory tests.

PAOCC spokesperson Dr. Winston Casio revealed that aside from tuberculosis, Yang is also suffering from hepatitis B, flu, gout, and other health conditions.

Cruz said Yang is among 15 detainees under PAOCC custody who have serious medical conditions requiring treatment. He noted that while these individuals were apprehended for their involvement in illegal POGO operations, PAOCC has a duty to ensure their well-being and provide necessary medical care.

The PAOCC is coordinating with the Department of Health (DOH) since their current detention facility, the NASDAKE Building, is not designed to accommodate detainees with health issues. The facility was originally a POGO hub that was shut down due to illegal operations and scamming activities.
