A brand new haven for weary travelers seeking respite in their journey is now open in Cebu province.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) led by Secretary Christina Frasco formally opened its first tourist rest area (TRA) in Medellin, Cebu on Monday.
With its Filipino-inspired design and furniture, the area features clean restroom and shower facilities, comfortable seats and free charging station for travelers. Local products made by small businesses are also presented at the pasalubong center.
The traveler’s sanctuary in Cebu is just the beginning as 14 other TRAs are set to open in other parts of the country.
Tourist rest areas are expected to soon rise in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon; Samal Island, Davao del Norte; the towns of Carcar, Carmen and Moalboal in Cebu; Dauis, Bohol; Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte; Roxas, Palawan; and Baguio City.
“The TRA, flagship project of the DOT identified as among the priority programs of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., is a convergence point that foreign and local travelers could approach by getting information on tourism sites and attractions, activities, accommodations; reporting concerns related to safety and security; and gaining access to other provisions necessary during their stay at a destination, such as a clean restroom,” the DOT said in a Facebook post.
Joining Frasco at the TRA inauguration are her husband Deputy House Speaker Duke Frasco and her mother Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia, and other local officials.
