Christmas at the Palace: Christina Frasco, Dawn Zulueta, Kenneth Cobonpue pick best parol

Christmas spirit is in the air as Malacañang hosts a nationwide parol-making contest.

Several festive lanterns are currently on display in the Palace grounds as entries to the competition organized by the Office of the President.

The contest titled “Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin” seeks to showcase the creativity of local parol-makers from various provinces while spreading the holiday cheer. The winners will be announced during the tree-lighting ceremony at the Palace soon.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, actress Dawn Zulueta Lagdameo, and designer Kenneth Cobonpue are among the judges assigned to pick the winning entries. The group visited the Palace to check on the parols made by talented Filipinos from across the country.

“Filipino creativity was on full display in Malacañan with beautifully created parols from all over the Philippines at the Isang Bituin, Isang Mithiin Nationwide Parol Making Competition,” Frasco wrote on Facebook.

“Grateful to Social Secretary Bianca Zobel for the invitation to be among the roster of esteemed judges which included Kenneth Cobonpue, Dawn Zulueta, and Jonathan Matti. Malipayong Pasko, Pilipinas! 🎄❤️💚” she said.

The Christmas parols will be judged based on use of endemic materials, creativity, and craftsmanship.

The top three winners will be awarded with cash prize, tech showcase and kabuhayan showcase. These will also be featured on the Palace holiday tree.
