Ping expects tedious task in looking for ‘pork’ in slashed CHR budget; baka inilipat sa distrito o probinsiya

Sen. Panfilo Lacson expects a tedious task in tracking down some P677.999 million in potential pork in the House of Representatives’ version of the national budget for 2018.

Lacson said the amount is the remainder of the P678-million budget of the Commission on Human Rights, which the House cut down to P1,000.

“Medyo tedious yan kasi kung saan napuntang distrito o probinsya, iisa-isahin talaga natin yan,” Lacson said in an interview on DWIZ radio.

But he said there is a technique to track down the funds and that is to compare the Malacanang and House versions of the budget.

The Palace version is known as the National Expenditure Program while the House’s version is the General Appropriations Bill.

“Iko-compare mo ang NEP sa GAB at makikita mo ano ang diprensya. So makita natin kung anong ginalaw,” Lacson said.

Last year, Lacson found P8.3 billion in pork-like insertions in the budget for 2017. He pushed to excise the amount as it would violate the organic act of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

The amount was realigned to provide free tuition in state colleges and universities.
