‘No talk, just give:’ Locsin lauds Filipino-Chinese businessmen’ donation to Recto Bank fishermen

Without much fanfare, a group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen has made a donation to help the 22 fishermen whose boat was hit by a Chinese vessel in Recto Bank early this month.

And Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. is quick to commend the businessmen for donating “the right way.”

“That’s the way to do it. No talk. Just give. And that is the right way. Repair the boat. My friends had the idea of making a new boat and then couldn’t figure out nor could I who would get the boat since the damaged vote is not owned by 22 fishermen. FFCCCII is really smart,” he tweeted.

Locsin earlier ordered the Department of Foreign Affairs to return the P500,000 donation given by former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario for the fishermen. He said the agency does not handle such funds.

Del Rosario has also been criticized by the Palace for making the donation with publicity. Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said the donation should have been given directly to the fishermen.
